CD celebrates Atakoğlu's quarter-century in music

Jazz pianist and composer Fahir Atakoğlu's newest album, "İz" (Trace), hits music stores this week. The album, released by Kirli Kedi records, marks the 25th year of Atakoğlu's career in music.

The album features the acclaimed musician's previous hits, reinterpreted by Sezen Aksu, Tarkan, Sertab Erener and Levent Yüksel, with whom Atakoğlu will also share the stage in a symphonic concert at İstanbul's Cemil Topuzlu Open-air Theater on Aug. 6.

The world-famous Turkish piano player's “Istanbul in Blue” is the 38th most played album on the top 200 jazz album charts. ”It is a great feeling for me to climb to number one on the American jazz charts. A weeks ago I was number four on the chart,” Atakoğlu said of his success. The pianist, who has established his music career in America, added that he considers his recent rise in popularity a great success for himself as well as for Turkey. Atakoğlu, who has been making melodies in the business for 25 years, is currently working on his next album, which will include stellar vocal talent such as Sezen Aksu, Tarkan, Nilüfer and Levent Yüksel. Celebrating his 25th year in music, Atakoğlu is planning to go on tour with a series of concerts.
